Arhiva de Sunet

We built the identity of Arhiva de Sunet around the idea of residual waves and urban traces. The project called for a visual structure capable of hosting thousands of recordings without becoming tiring or chaotic for users. We explored how sound interacts with public space and translated these frequencies into tangible graphic elements.

Visual system and structure

We removed unnecessary decorative elements and let typography set the rhythm. We chose a precisely cut grotesque typeface that anchors the asymmetrical visual materials. This approach lets you navigate hundreds of hours of recordings without visual distractions, keeping the focus on the audio content.

Every element of the identity was tested for legibility across a range of digital environments. We weren’t chasing a fashionable aesthetic, but a solution that would remain relevant as the archive grows. We prioritised high contrast and a clear information hierarchy.

Implementation and impact

  • Positioning strategy within the cultural landscape
  • Scalable system design
  • Research-oriented digital interface

The result is a working tool for researchers and an immersive experience for the general public. We transformed a dry database into a memorable digital destination. Easier access to information increased average listening time by 40% in the first three months after launch.

The project shows how a rigorous art direction can support a complex scientific endeavour. We delivered a set of visual guidelines that lets the in-house team create new materials without diluting the brand’s impact.
